About the saxophone

The Art of Saxophone Playing by Larry Teal (Contribution by) According to Larry Teal, the best method of learning to play the saxophone is to study with a competent teacher. Teal's studies were mostly of instruments other than the saxophone, but as a student at a Chautauqua summer session, he came under the influence of Georges Barrère, the eminent French flutist. He played bass clarinet with the Detroit Symphony, but he continued to be absorbed by the saxophone. As a result of his acquired expertise and growing reputation, he was appointed to a full-time faculty position as a saxophone teacher by the University of Michigan -- the first ever to receive such an appointment from a major university. During his 21-year tenure, he attracted students from all over, thus exerting an ever widening influence on saxophone teaching and performing.

https://www.saxophonealliance.org/	The North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA) is an organization made up of individuals who share a common interest in the saxophone. Members include professional performers, university professors, public school teachers, students of all levels, and others who have an interest in the saxophone. In addition to the Alliance's emphasis on disseminating information concerning the saxophone, the organization also works to provide opportunities for its members to make music, fostering fellowship among saxophone enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds. Bi-annually, NASA produces a national conference. During the off years, the regions of the association sponsor conferences. Saxophone Symposium is NASA's peer-reviewed journal.

	Each year a committee of members collaborate to produce the World Saxophone Congress. It is generally held in nations other than the US. It is not part of any professional organization.
