This book is considered one of the primary resources on the history of woodwinds. In addition, the author gives a solid foundation in how the instruments work.

This text was Bartolozzi's attempt at codifying the notation, fingering, and performance methods of the extended techniques that were being composed and performed. It is still a fundamental resource for performers and researchers.

Although this resource is a comprehensive list (for its time, 1974) of solos and etudes for woodwinds, Voxman and Merriman did not make any commentary on the entries.
