Library Schedule - Summer school, school holidays, end of semester hours, etc.
The Thrift Library is open seven days a week for a total of 90.5 hours.
Hours are determined by usage. The library documents the number of people in the library every half hour, paying particular attention to the hours around opening and closing, to determine if usage is increasing. When we detect a trend, we experiment with longer hours, and our users are given the opportunity to "vote with their feet."
Over the years there have been multiple experiments with longer hours which have resulted in the expansion of hours on several occasions, the most notable of which was from 11:00 to 12:00 Sundays through Thursdays and from 8:00 am to 7:30 am Mondays through Fridays.
See the Extended Hours Experiment Page for details of the latest evaluation of the library's hours.
Historically, Library Hours are among the lowest scoring categories in the annual Student Library Survey. Nevertheless, this score has grown significantly in recent time to the point where it is now considered a good score. Any score over 4.0 is considered good. Any score under 4.0 needs improvement.
No survey was conducted in 2019-20 due to COVID-19.
Quite well, but first who are our peers? Our peers are not Clemson and USC. We will never be able to provide the kind of hours provided by the large state institutions. Our peers are the other private academic colleges here in SC.
Take a guess. Of the 22 private college libraries in SC, where did the Thrift Library rank?
