South Carolina Academic Libraries

PASCAL = Partnership Among South Carolina Academic Libraries

PASCAL Delivers is a FREE, rapid delivery interlibrary loan (ILL) service for print books and digitized copies of journal articles and book chapters.

1. Sign in to OneSearch with your AU account.

2. Use OneSearch to check if Thrift Library owns the item(s) you need.

3. If you cannot find the item(s), enable "Expand My Results" under the "Refine my results" menu.

4. Open the record for the item you would like to request and click the "Request via PASCAL Delivers" button. Digital items will be emailed to your AU email account. Print books can be picked up from and returned to any participating PASCAL library - a list of options is located on the PASCAL Delivers Request Form. If the "Request via PASCAL Delivers" button does not work or OneSearch appears to be down, you may request your item(s) via the backup Interlibrary Loan Form. If the form doesn't load, please close the window and click on the Interlibrary Loan Form link a second time.

5. Items arrive at Thrift Library within a few days and check out for 6-weeks with a 6-week renewal. Items can be renewed by signing in to OneSearch.

PASCAL Delivers: Visiting Patron Service

  • You may visit any participating PASCAL library in person to browse and check out items.
  • Only items available for request via PASCAL Delivers are available for checkout in person.
  • Be sure to check the operating hours and visitor protocols of any library you plan to visit in person.

South Carolina Public Library System

The Anderson Main Library is located just one mile from the Anderson University main campus. All Anderson County residents, including residential AU students, are eligible for and encouraged to apply for a free library card to use both the physical resources located at the library and its many digital resources such as ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, streaming media, and databases. The Anderson Main Library also has conference and meeting rooms available for reservation.

The Anderson County Library System participates in the SCLENDS program, which is a robust interlibrary loan system through which you can request items from a consortium of 20 South Carolina county libraries and the State Library and have them delivered to the Anderson Main Library or another library location within the SCLENDS system.

All South Carolina permanent residents are eligible and encouraged to apply for a State Library card. This will enable you to access the physical resources located at the state library in Columbia and many unique online databases on South Carolina's history and government.

Distance Learners: Borrowing Options

For AU students residing outside of South Carolina, we encourage you to explore the following options in your local area:

  • Your local public library system.
  • Your local public academic (college or university) library. Most publicly-funded academic libraries provide community borrowing cards to allow community members to check out physical items. Some academic libraries also allow guests to use their online databases on site. Be sure to check the visitor protocols for any library you plan to visit in person.

Reciprocal Borrowing Program

AU participates in the Atla* Reciprocal Borrowing Program. All AU faculty, students, and staff have reciprocal access to the physical collections of participating libraries (map). To utilize this service, you must:

  • Have an account with the Thrift Library in good standing.
  • Show proof of current enrollment or employment at AU at the participating library.
  • Be informed about and abide by the rules and policies of the libraries you use.
  • Return materials in a timely fashion according to the rules of the lending library.
  • Assume responsibility for all materials borrowed, including but not limited to payment for lost/damaged materials and overdue fines.

ACL Reciprocal Borrowing Program

AU participates in the Association of Christian Librarians (ACL) Reciprocal Borrowing Program. All AU faculty, students, and staff have reciprocal access to the physical collections of participating Christian academic libraries

  1. You must first obtain a signed Authorization Form from Thrift Library to receive borrowing privileges from a participating library. Download a copy of the form, complete your portion, and email it to reference@andersonuniversity.edu for approval. Your completed form will be emailed back to you.
  2. You can then take the signed Authorization Form along with a photo ID to a participating library. Privileges and loan periods are determined by the lending library and may vary from those of the borrower’s home institution.
