Welcome to the Online Searching LibGuide where you will learn how to search the Library Catalog, Databases, and the Internet.

There are four main types of searches. Each has its strength and weaknesses.

  1. Phrase searching - Most often associated with Google. 
  2. Boolean searching - Most often associated with databases
  3. Faceted searching - Associated with the Library Catalog.
  4. Subject Searching - Most powerful. Used in the Library Catalog and Databases.


Almost any format can be found online. Use the right tool to find the right format.

Library Catalog - Finds traditional books and media. Also those eBooks owned by the library. Does not find eBook subscriptions, streamng media, articles or websites.

OneSearch - Searches most databases, eBooks, streaming media AND the Library Catalog in one search.

Databases - Best for Articles, but there are specialized databases for every format.
